Working with people from all over the world

I have decided to stay at the school I am at for another year.  It is crazy sometimes, but that is the UAE, I think.  The children are gone, but the staff are still in for a few weeks, and different people have been bringing in "breakfast".  So far, we have had Syrian/Arab falafel, pastries, Bangladeshi biryani (rice and meat), Egyptian sweets (like Cool Whip deserts!), and today Iranian food.  I can't really keep the different Arab types of food straight.  I am feeling the pressure to bring, what, French toast casserole?  cinnamon buns?  argh.

I counted the different nationalities in one room when the biryani was served and there were 13!  Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Egyptian, Palestinian, Iraqi, Emirati, American, British, Spanish, Russian, Irish, Kazakhstani.  It was insane.  It is amazing that people can get along at all.  I just try to listen hard to the Arabic and basically understand nothing.  And we are all there because of the English language - the school teaches English to Emirati students.
