In August, Charles and I also went to India for 4 days and 3 nights on a package tour. That meant that we were met at the airport and had a driver. At each location, a guide joined us. It was a good way to see the place because it was so chaotic that it might have been too much to do on our own. It was a dream of mine to see India and I am glad I saw it with Charles. We only went to the north - flew into Delhi, then drove to Jaipur, and drove to Agra, and back to Delhi.
There were cows everywhere, just lying in the road. I just found it odd. Apparently, the owners milk them and then let them wander around town eating anything they can find before they come home to be milked again in the evenings.
This is the Amber fort, near Jaipur, to which you can ride on an elephant. It was uphill along the side of the fort.
That's the elephant going home in the afternoon to rest.
Yes, there were snake charmers with cobras (who could not bite, or were not venomous).
This is Fatikpur Sikr, or something, sorry, the name doesn't stick with me. Limestone abandoned city built by Ahkbar, near Agra.
City scenes, near Agra.
Taj Mahal at dawn.
A little later and the light is changing it to a more golden color.
The marble work.
Agra Fort, from which you can see the Taj. Very impressive, built by the Mughals.
I thought the Agra Fort looked a little like an Italian villa.
The Taj from the Fort.

This is the Indian family we went to see, the landlords of our driver. They were very nice. The father was a teacher and the son wanted to jump out of airplanes!
